Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classes consists of 7th and 8th grade students who read between a 1st and 5th grade reading level. Many are ELD or second language learners who often struggle with grade level literature.

Because my students are struggling readers, they often miss out on so many of the wonderful books that are out there for them to read. Titles such as Harry Potter, Twilight, Anne of Green Gables and The Diary of Anne Frank often go unread because they find them difficult. So how does a teacher make these and so many other amazing books accessible to these students?

The answer to the problem is so simple - audiobooks! Books on Cd have gotten 20 struggling readers through the entire Harry Potter series. Alas, Cd's get scratched and must be replaced. However, with some mp3 players, we would be able to download the books and save the wear and tear on the Cd's thereby saving hundreds of dollars in replacement costs.

You can make this a reality for my students. Your donation will allow so many students, this year and for years to come, the ability to enjoy some of the most incredible literature that they would otherwise have shied away from and never read.
