Power Our Learning With An LCD Projector For PowerPoints

My students need an LCD projector in order to view my lessons, PowerPoint presentations and educational videos.

"But Ms., we can't even see the screen!" I teach a 6th grade self-contained special education class, where each of my students has some type of learning disability or ADHD. We are a public middle school serving a high-need community in DC.

My classroom has no overhead projector, and the chalkboard is so far away from my students' desks that I cannot effectively teach and hold the children's attention at the same time. So every night, I create lessons with flashy PowerPoint presentations in order to maximize instructional time and to keep their attention. However, the students have to huddle around my laptop if they want to see the screen.

If our classroom had an LCD projector, I would be able to pique my students' interest with these catchy presentations (as well as show educational videos and student-created projects). A projector would allow me to stay in close proximity to the students while demonstrating subject/verb agreement and greatest common factor on ready-made presentations. No more turning my back to write out examples on the blackboard!

Today's students are much more interested when technology is involved in the daily lesson; therefore, you will help my students focus on our work and make it possible for them to overcome the achievement gap.
