My school is the only Title 1 school in a suburban district, therefore it is the most needy and is lacking many of the things that could help make my students more successful. We have a very large ESL population. However, my school is very close knit and families and friends always feel welcome and take pride in being part of the community. What our school does not have monetarily we make up for in support and pride and therefore it is one the best places I have ever experienced to help a child succeed. We truly live by the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child.

Since my students do not have many "real world" experiences (traveling, cultural arts, access to technology)I would like to do all I can to bring those experiences to them. Therefore they will become more confident readers and writers as they will begin to make connections to characters, author's craft, and text to real world connections.

Ideally I would love to be able to expose my students to all there is in the world. By letting them use cameras, they can capture their lives and write about them. Last year I took my students to their first play, although it was a 3 man performance with little props, my students were amazed and glued to the stage. They have never had these types of experiences. I want to give them all I can.

Your help will provide my students with the opportunities that so many other children have a take for granted. I want to expose them to as much as I can so that they will gain the confidence and experience that will help them to become amazing young adults who feel that the sky is the limit and anything is possible for them.
