Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Middle School students learn so much better with hands-on and visual models of unfamiliar concepts. Physical and Earth Science can be fascinating! My 6th grade Science students are in a high-poverty public school that has been academically under-achieving in state standards. My kids will benefit from educational opportunities outside of a textbook.

Our students do not have textbooks they can take home for the school year, and are high-need students. A large portion of our students are basic or below basic on standardized testing. But they are interested in science! I have seen that hands-on and visual models for my students are the best teaching methods.

This model of faults will teach my students several important state standards they need to learn, and will also be a jumping off point for other physical science and earth science concepts. It is a manipulative that can be demonstrated for them, and that students may use to repeat for themselves.
