My classroom is made up of 31 students ranging in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. The classroom is a Learning Center which is a combination of students who have less than 50% of their school day in a small group environment and more than 50% of their day (but less than 75%) in a small group environment. Their disabilities range from Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments, Other Health Impairments, Autism, Emotional Disturbances, and Visual Impairments. I love my students so much. They work so hard for me each day and I am trying to provide them a classroom that is stimulating academically so that they can take the information they are learning in my class and use it in their general education class and ultimately in life.

With so many students in my class and each of them having difficulties with reading, I have a hard time getting to each of them when they need a book read.

My students need access to two iPod Nanos to listen to stories while they read. This will give my students an opportunity to read books that they understand, but taking away the difficulties they have with reading. As well, I imagine them taking it out to recess and sitting under a tree reading a book (maybe sharing the headphones with a friend) or curling up on the reading couch listening to stories. When a student wants to read, I want to give them that chance and I think that a iPod Nano will give them the thrill of using a high tech device, as well as literature that will change their lives.

You will make it possible for my students to listen to stories when no one is around to read it to them.
