Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class of 23 diverse, urban kindergarten students live below the poverty line and are predominately English language learners who have not attended preschool.

Our entire school has been left behind in the shift to digital transmission. The local cable company was supposed to hook our school up to cable last year to prevent the situation, but they never came. When the president recently gave his speech to American school children, not a single child in our school had access to his address. This frustrated and saddened me, especially given that our current president is an especially important role model for our diverse student population.

It is very important for our students to have access to occasional, vital television broadcasts and to be able to see technological resources on a large screen. While I do not often access television programing in my classroom, an LCD television can also be hooked up to a computer for the purpose of allowing students to see lessons on the screen as a whole group.

I intend to keep this television on a mobile cart, which will benefit not only the students in my classroom, but the entire student body of our school. You can bring our students into the digital age. Please help our students experience technology lessons and historically significant events as they happen!
