Improve the Quality of Music in our Schools! I am the band director at the Elementary and Middle School level. I teach kids to play their instruments starting in the 5th grade and continuing through 8th grade. Our Middle School has been considered a high needs community. We have over 58% free/reduced lunch. Over 80 students in our band program use instruments that are owned by the school, many of which were donated by generous former music students, parents, teachers and community members.

One of the best ways an instrumental musician can make improvements in his or her playing is by hearing high quality recordings of their rehearsals, practice sessions and performances. We currently have limited access to recording equipment, the equipment we have is ill-suited to our application and our equipment is not portable.

I propose that a SONY PCM-D50 portable linear PCM Digital Recorder is the solution to our dilemma. The PCM-D50 is 100% portable for recording in practice rooms, auditoriums, on field trips, festivals, solo recitals and rehearsals in our band room. The PCM-D50 has high quality stereo microphones built in that will not distort sounds even at high volumes. Students will directly be benefited in their analysis of their own playing, their ensemble's playing and even the satisfaction of hearing their own recordings. Students will be able to record tests and compile playlists of their playing over time marking progress. I will use the new device to create recordings that I can later manipulate on our existing computer, creating Cd's and even online links on our school website of the band's performance.

Your help will ensure that students have access to this fantastic technology to improve the quality of their art. Your donation will improve the quality of music education in our building and directly influence the progress that each of my student musicians makes each year for many years to come.
