Literacy for Middle Schoolers!

My students need 5 copies of books to engage adolescent girl readers with topical and classical themes in literature.

  • $480 goal

Hooray! This project is fully funded

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My students want to connect personally to what they are reading, but our library is underfunded, in need of newer titles, and in need of sets so students can connect to literature together!

My classrooms: 115 7th and 8th grade students in a diverse, high poverty school that just recently grew from a K-5 to a K-8. Our library was not given much funding to grow with our students, so we desperately need some engaging literature at the middle school level that our students can connect to personally.

My students are ready to begin literature circles so they can discuss their books with other interested students and gain different perspectives and deeper understandings of the world. They are eager to find books that they can enjoy and make connections with their own lives, while being able to share that insight with their peers.

By funding this project, you will provide my classroom with sets of classic and contemporary novels that specifically appeal to adolescent readers and engage their sense of wonder and empathy. My students are trying to discover who they are and what kind of person they want to be, and literature has an amazing power to influence young lives. Please help empower young readers to learn to love reading, to grow, and to develop a lifelong love of literature.
