Our gifted students need more access to cutting edge technology. I am a gifted resource teacher. I service 4 elementary schools across the city. My students range from grades K-5. Being a teacher on the move makes lugging laptops from place to place quite difficult.

Our resource staff has been given one ipod touch each to use with our students for this school year. In researching ways to use this technology with my students it has become apparent that one ipod touch is great but insufficient in achieving our goals.

I've come up with many ways I can use this technology with my gifted resource students. The first is with the map application that is preloaded in the units. The students are going to use the maps to investigate a make believe acid spill to understand the area. They will then reroute traffic on our local highway to other routes that will get all the cars over to major metropolitan areas. We can also use the map app to do guided tours of our novel studies. Another intriguing application for my students is to make and publish podcasts of our lessons and the learning that takes place. I know that the more I use the ipod with students I will come up with a plethora of uses. The interaction the students have with this technology is quite dynamic. The interactivity is well above that of a laptop. The ipod is much cheaper and sturdier than a lap top. Learning how to use one is also very intuitive. I'm positive the students will learn to use them quickly to reach the academic goals I have for this piece of equipment.

Your assistance in this project will put more accessible technology into students hands. They will be used with a wide range of age groups. I will also use them in many different subject areas. I know that the gifted students I work with will come up with new ways to use them for our classroom sessions.
