Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Health to 9-12 that are in a very high need community. We discuss 6 basic topics for the semester. Mental/emotional/ and social health, drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention, sex, AIDS and STDS and violence.

Our school has recently hired on 3 new teachers in our department but our budget has not gone up with the increase. With a small budget we do not have enough money to buy supplies for each class. Plus a lot of our sources at school are out of date some 30 years.

I need construction paper, markers, and glue for different projects that involve student hands on activities. We make drug prevention pamphlets, abstinence cubes, and make collages. My students are also in need of a human torso model because they need to see something very close to a life like model to help understand the body better. My class is also in need of a CD ROM that discuss illness and what they look like. Many teens are not aware of how dangerous viruses can be and they need to be educated on them.

Your help will ensure my students a more active involvement in their health education class. By having help with our project in class my students can have a better understanding of how health directly effects them in their everyday lives.
