My high school math students are the best. I have a mixture of 9th to 12th grade students from Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Financial Math. We are on the urban fringe of a metropolitan area and have mostly rural students, but also have many urban students. Because of this mixture, we have a high poverty group of students as well as special behavioral needs students who need direction in life.

Mathematics is a field where US students are losing ground. In my classroom, students are exposed to a rigorous curriculum for college prep by using innovative tools and creative thinking. I want to reach them on a technology level.

This grant would help access online tutorials to assist them with their studies, meeting individual needs of diverse learners, and strengthen their mathematical foundation. Most students need help with concepts so a video tutorial can be played as whole-class, small-group, or individually to help customize various learning levels within one class. My students need access to podcasts and tutorials in learning mathematics and concepts. The iPod touch would allow us uninterrupted viewing of digital video segments. Our internet access cannot stream podcasts without several delays and an iPod would help with playback of downloaded digital videos. The iPod will be much more cost efficient than a DVR recorder/player.

This project will influence hundreds of students each year for several years to come and give some students the desire to learn! I want my students to love mathematics and know how to apply math concepts to college and real-world experiences!
