My students need thesauruses, vocabulary building activities, and critical thinking activities to help them in an national analogy competition designed to build language skills and encourage higher level thinking.

"Let's teach every child at their level" is my motto. I teach gifted children at a Title I school in Oklahoma. Often these first through fifth graders are overlooked because they already know grade level material when they walk in the door. I believe these are our future leaders, and want them to be prepared to take the world by storm! They too should learn new things, even if it means reaching beyond the standard curriculum.

This is my first year as the gifted education teacher. I have no thesauruses, and few activities pertaining to language arts. My students are preparing for an analogies competition as a way to strengthen their vocabularies & critical thinking skills. Because we serve a high-need community, many students do not have the ability to contribute money to support this project.

I need a library of critical thinking activities to help these students think at a higher level, so that I can begin to teach them to solve analogies. I also need vocabulary building activities to extend beyond grade level materials. Finally, I need thesauruses to help students learn synonyms and antonyms that are critical in working with analogies.

Your help will make it possible for my students to reach their potential. You will make it possible for these students to increase their vocabulary, and to think critically. These are our future judges, scientists, authors, and teachers. I hope you will help me to empower them through a small competition now, that will give them skills for a lifetime.
