Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are a high needs school with a 90% ethnic minority population. Our classrooms are crowded and our materials are scarce.

Our school has a large english language learner population. These students are under the most pressure and scrutiny to succeed and among the most under served. They are passionate about learning, succeeding, and being respected. Budget cuts have made it extremely difficult to purchase the materials needed to appropriately service our english language learners. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel and recycling outdated materials. As their teacher their success is paramount and their failure is personal. I want to give them a fighting chance!

Our students need materials made for them. Materials in their native language as well as their second language. If our students are to successfully acquire the English language, they must first master their first. These materials will provide differentiation while scaffolding student learning. They will work on phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary in their native and their second language.

Your funding of this proposal will reinforce to our students that there are many people who care about their academic, social, developmental, and future success. They will appreciate, respect, and learn a great deal through the use of these powerful materials. Your compassion, understanding and generosity will empower our students to believe in themselves and become leaders for a new generation of incoming english language learners.
