You many not know, "Teen dating violence is influenced by how teenagers look at themselves and others, and according to experts, elementary school girls are reporting an increase in dating domestic violence during this recession.
I teach Departmental English Language Arts to 140 students each day in one of the largest school districts in the nation. My ethnically diverse school's poverty rate is 90.4% and many of my students receive free or reduced meals at school. Gang activity and violence are common elements of my school's community. Our school provides an education to students in prekindergarten -eighth grade with inclusion of special learning needs and health impairments in the regular classroom.

I mean, like my mother says, I won't never win no beauty contest." "Who Am I Without Him?", gives a virtual tour about a universal situation such as teen age dating violence between boys and girls.
Providing my students with individual copies of the novel Who Am I Without Him?:Short Stories About Girls and the Boys in Their
Lives, you will providing multiple opportunities for my students to read high interest materials, actively discuss issues that are relevant to them in a safe and nurturing environment and seek healthy alternative friends and relationships. This novel is set in an urban setting similar to most of my students allowing them to see themselves in the characters we are reading about and make on the spot changes in their own lives through written response journals.
Because of the violence many of my students experience daily, high interest reading materials are needed to deter future violence against girls, help them develop self confidence to succeed in a global society, respect and set high expectations for themselves. Please consider my proposal.
