Why Is It Important To Be A Good Citizen?

My students need two digital cameras and one video camera.

I teach science and history to eighth grade students. Our community has a great school and I feel blessed to teach here. Our school has its challenges, but those challenges are why I love teaching.

One of those challenges that we face is enriching our low income families. We have a large population of impoverished children who need to have the chance to excel in our fast-paced, high tech world. As a teacher, I feel a responsibility to teach students what it is that makes a good citizen.

To help my students show the knowledge they have learned in our governance and civics unit, I want them to create a podcast, depicting how and why people come to America to be citizens, why they, my students, are proud to be Americans, and why it is important to know about your country and its history. The students will work in groups writing a script and answering the questions. The students will use the digital cameras and video camera to take pictures and movie clips of themselves and their group, presenting their scripts. They will then upload their pictures and movies and create podcasts to share.

The future of our country is with our youth. Educating them on how to be a good citizen is vital to the continued success and growth of our country. Please help my students make a difference like the donors who fund this project.
