As a High School Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher in OK, I am around students all of the time and I over hear their conversations of what they do in their free time.

Wow! I am amazed of how openly some students will talk about smoking and how they buy the cigarettes, even if they are under 18 years of age. These students are still at the age where it is easier for them to kick the habit now than if they would try to quit smoking ten years down the road.

As a Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher it is my duty to teach the students the negative effects of smoking before it is too late. It not only causes damage to one's lungs, but damage to one's entire body and the bodies around them. I can only tell these students not to smoke so many times, but I need models and pictures to help convince them of my message. That is why I believe the "Smoking Sue for Two" would be a great example to show how smoking while pregnant would not only affect the mother but the fetus too. As for the model of the lung, the students can see what a smoker's lung looks like compared to a non-smokers lung. Then lastly, the smoking picture profile book, this will provide more vivid pictures of what smoking can do to your body. All of these would be wonderful resources to teach students about the negative affects of smoking.

So, remember it only takes approximately five cigarettes to get one addicted. These high school students need to learn the consequences before it is too late. Please help them realize that smoking will not only ruin their life, but the lives of others.
