I am a new teacher at an area middle school and I want to inspire my students with a new art program. I want to "Jazz It Up". To accomplish this, I will play jazzy music (loud! bold! exciting!) while they create wild jazzy sculptures using crazy colors and flashy materials.

As a new teacher to a school which has many students who have been rezoned from other schools, I have noticed a reluctance by students to get involved. The school is just missing the excitement that should be there at this level. Our school is older and some students feel that a lot of things are not as exciting as where they came from. I want to get them excited and motivated about what we are doing in art. I will do this by showing the commonality between the arts, by living life loudly with jazz(and other music),and with the experience of making something by feeling their expressions as they create. Because of all the budget cuts there is little money except for basics in our art room. By adding some hands on materials and bright ,flashy supplies, they will become more motivated. I will also be showing them famous artworks as the music plays and they create. I will compile a PowerPoint of expressive artwork mirroring the music that we are listening to off of the web. Finally,we will stage an opening of our exhibit at a local art center playing the visuals and music used to create the works for the public as they view our student works.

With more diverse materials and a zippy presentation, students cannot help but feel more excited. If they like the activity then they will enjoy this class more and want to buy into more activities in the future. They also will also connect their learning experiences with life. For life is art, and enthusiasm can be created anywhere, anytime by anyone.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to better accept this change in their lives right now and realize that change can be good as they become more creative individuals.
