My students are working to improve their critical thinking and writing skills. I teach American Literature and Advanced Placement English to students in tenth through twelfth grades.

Ours is a small rural school and, while we have good technological resources, our library is understocked in modern critical reference materials for literature study. With an up-to-date in-class reference library we will be able to provide for study groups and advanced research opportunities that will help students prepare for college reading and writing.

We hope to put together a critical reference library that includes some of the Harold Bloom critical reference editions that contain essays on novels we study in our classes. Students will be able to do advanced literary research that can be used as they build critical understandings of books we read. This research will be incorporated into critical essays on literature that students will write.

Your donation will allow my students to have access to important literary criticism that they can hold in their hands and share with one another. These fine books will supplement online resources and reinforce the importance for students to consult a variety of reliable sources as they create research essays of their own. They will help me to help prepare students for rigorous college writing by serving as models of good writing.
