"I am currently the technology resource teacher and the academic team coach at my school. I work with students from K-7th grade. However, I work closely with a small group of 5th - 6th grade students who are academically gifted. These students will be participating in various academic competitions this year and in coming years.
Unfortunately, we are in a high-poverty area of Kentucky. There isn't any extra money available for needed resources. We have been using a broken buzzer system for the past two years. This is really frustrating for the students because the system doesn't work right. I want to motivate these students because they will be the leaders in our community someday. We are using a used buzzer system that does not work during our academic competitions. The students are trying really hard not to show their disappointment...but I can tell by the look in their eyes. These kids are some of the brightest and the best in our area. We will be competing with students from all over the state. However, these other students are from richer areas and they have new equipment. My students have to use broken equipment. It is humiliating for them. We really need a new buzzer system. We need a Quiz Bowl. This resource will allow us to practice in our academic competitions. Students meet and study questions during and after school in order to practice taking tests and answering questions.
With a new system, we will be better prepared for academic competitions and better able to compete against other students and school systems. Please help my students. You will make it possible for them to feel that they are just as good as other students in our state. They shouldn't be penalized just because they live in a high-poverty area. They are academically gifted...and should be given a chance. Your help will make all the difference in the world for these students who will appreciate it more than you will ever know.
My students need a Quiz Bowl in order to participate in the Academic Competitions in our state.

Dear David, Suzanne, Beth, Carol (and kids), Ben, Natalie, Brandy and HP,
Words alone cannot express how much gratitude, joy, and excitement that I am feeling at this moment. Thank you so much for helping make this project a reality. It is wonderful that you share in my vision of helping these highly-gifted students with their academic competitions and Quiz Bowl matches.
The equipment that you have funded will enable these students and others like them in the future to fully participate in academic competitions. The Quiz Bowl will allow the students to compete in academic challenges in the areas of math, science, social studies, language arts, and arts and humanities. Instead of being at a disadvantage due to broken equipment, they will have that edge that they need in order to feel that they are just as good (if not better!) than any other team. You have really made a difference in the lives of these children!
This equipment will be used for years to come. Thank you so much!
With gratitude, Mr. F.

"I gave to this project because when I was in Knowledge Bowl (many, many) years ago in High School, our buzzers sometimes gave us a small shock when we touched them. Bet Red!"
"We gave to this project because when I was in school I know that my favorite thing was getting to find out about the interesting things of the world and I feel that every child deserves that chance, to feel the fascination of learning something new and knowing you discovered it and you can share it with the whole class, something only you know."
"Thank you all so much! We have a long way to go...but you all have helped out so much! Thanks again!"
