Isn't it easier to learn something when you can see what the teacher is talking about? Well, my 6th and 7th grade students think so too. I am the 6th and 7th grade English and geography teacher at our school. We are a small rural school that houses 6th through 12th grades. I am currently beginning to use a writing workshop method to grow writers in my classroom.

Often times I want to show students my writing or show a student example. Currently, the only way I can do that is to make an overhead transparency later in the day and hope I can recapture the moment tomorrow. How great it would be to take full advantage of those many teachable moments!

Having a digital document projector for our classroom will help me to capture and take advantage of the teachable moments. Students will be able to see the writing process in action. I can demonstrate how I work through the many challenges that arise when composing a piece of writing. With the projector I am requesting, I can also show my classes video clips, pictures from books and maps. With this technology, I will better prepare my students for high school and eventually college.

It is with your generous help that I will capture more of the teachable moments. My students will become better writers and more engaged learners because of you.
