To touch and change the life of a child who wants to learn makes life worth living! I am a kindergarten teacher who stare in the faces of children of all ethnic backgrounds eager to read that "Special book" to mommy or daddy one day! I teach in a high-need community where a good education is the only outlet for most of these students. A lot of our students are living below poverty, being raised by grandparents and unemployed desperate parents who want the best for their children. My school is 90% free or reduced lunch, and because of the economy's position, funds are very limited in my school. The school is located in an area with very little parent participation, a high unemployment and drop-out rate, and a crime infested community. Although administration tries to aid with resource materials, its never enough!

This year I have a bunch of eager little robins ready to learn how to read. Most of them have very little to no literature in the home, and no transportation to public libraries. They're intrigued by the books in the room and are always begging to go to "The Reading Nest" and "The Authors Corner" to create books to read at home with a parent or grandparent! I've even had some to cry because of the inability to read and write words! Because reading is the foundation to success in life, I want to be instrumental in making sure that ALL of my children are fluent readers and writers!

Right now, I am in desperate need of sight word and alphabet hands-on materials and leveled readers. These high frequency words will help students to become great readers. I need hands-on phonemic awareness materials to make sure that I meet all modalities of learning in my classroom. For my ESOL students, tactile and manipulative resources are a necessity. If funded, all of the materials I am requesting will guarantee my students to leave me confidently reading and writing efficiently and effectively!

Your help will ensure that none of my students end up being another number in the system! Your sacrifice to financially invest in the lives of my children now will make it possible for my students to give their parents a ray of hope that miracles do exist! It will affirm to them that perseverance and determination, along with committed people that are willing to lend a helping hand, makes the impossible possible.
