The curious 4th and 5th graders who come to my science classroom do not always have the opportunities to observe living creatures in their natural environments. They love anything that is brought into the classroom, but their opportunities outside of the science room are limited by the economic status of their families. Our students have parents who work very hard to provide the best they can for their children, but it isn't always possible to provide the extras that require upkeep and have future costs.

The future scientists of this public school grow up in an area surrounded by water. Michigan borders 4 of the 5 Great Lakes, but most of these students have never seen anything but the blue of the surface or the sand and rocks of a beach. They know about some of the fish types, seaweed, and organisms that live in the water, but they have never had a chance to observe it up close.

With a gallon aquarium for each of their tables and a 20 gallon kit to set up in the classroom, my students will be able to observe the ecosystem below the surface of their area waters.

With your donation, you will help excite over 275 students about the water ecosystems in their own state. They will forever remember their fish, snails, plants and other creatures that lived on their lab table during the school year. Your donation will help inspire these children to follow science on a path to a career of the future.
