I teach third grade in an inner city school. My students come from a varied background and home life. Our school is high poverty, but we expect excellence from our students despite their economic condition.
I would like to motivate my students and provide a unique opportunity for them. I want to establish an astronomy club. That club would meet in the evening once or twice a month, and we would explore space and all its beauty. My students will have to compete with students from other countries who will be more prepared than they will for higher learning and be exposed to more opportunities. I want my students to want to go to college and study a field that I love so much...science. I want them to have a passion for inquiry and exploration.
This telescope will not only inspire me to teach better, but it will also inspire my students to seek knowledge of space and other scientific topics. It is important not only for their future employment, but it will also increase their chances of passing state required tests in science. My telescope and the club I create with it will improve the tests scores and lives of my students.
If you choose to fund my project, you will brighten the lives of students in a high poverty area that need something awesome to look at and believe in. They will join my astronomy club, look at those stars, and know that their future is only limited by their imaginations. They can aim for the stars and be successful in life if they have a good understanding of the world and what it takes to succeed in it. Thank you for considering my proposal and I hope you find it appealing.
