Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Bringing the world into the classroom for students to see is a tricky mission. Bringing it and keeping the students attention…more difficult. Completing this mission with high school students involves a whole other realm. Now add a diverse population of students from low socio-economic backgrounds, English Language Learners, and different learning modalities, and you have my classroom. Many times students have a hard time understanding the concepts of science, especially something that can not be seen by the naked eye. While microscopes are great to help students to see things that are microscopic, they cost a lot of money. Another option that can be used in the classroom is “Micro-viewers” and “Micro-slides”. These are viewers that look like a miniature microscope and use pre-made slides that are an enlargement of the materials the students are investigating. These help foster the connection of a concept to a more concrete understanding of what they should be looking for and visualizing. In addition to the slides, printed material is included that helps to explain to the student what it is they are looking at. This allows a connection of what they are reading to what they are seeing. To help my students see the “invisible world”, I am in need of 2 sets of slides for the micro-viewers. This will allow me to bring what they cannot see to sight, and allow another means of facilitating the curriculum. Your help in obtaining these materials will allow my students another means of mastering the curriculum, allow them to succeed in class, and be better prepared for their future.
