I have a group of very talented students who are part of our school's Pop Band. This is a new group that I have formed so that more students can be involved in making music. I teach middle and high school grades 7-12 instrumental music. It is impossible to include every gifted musician in advanced musical groups. I already have extra-curricular ensembles such as Marching Band, Jazz Band, Brass Ensemble, and Woodwind Ensemble. I choose students for these ensembles based on musical ability. The groups serve as a vehicle for the enrichment of their talents. The most recent "Pop Band" is yet another of those vehicles. I even have students very skilled technologically who assist the band with all of the sound and recording aspects involved with the group.

With our state and country in its current economic situation there is obviously stress on our school district budgets. Our department gets a budget to work with each spring, but it is getting more difficult to get the materials we need in order for our programs to survive. The budget money is spent wisely on music and instrument repairs, but even these items are seeing cuts.

My students need a Juno-G workstation synthesizer keyboard to enable them to discover and produce the sounds necessary for performing and recording pop music. We have only had a couple of rehearsals and already they are showing great promise. I am seriously considering sending their recording to the Pennsylvania State Music Educators association so that it may be reviewed and possibly lead to a performance at the state convention.

Your very generous donation will help my students to be more productive in this ensemble. It will not only benefit those planning on majoring in music at the college level, but also those gifted in computers and other types of technology. This kind of positive experience reflects well on college applications for all those involved. It also gives other students a chance to be part of a musical family! Your gift will help these students to be more well-rounded individuals and perhaps give them a path to follow.
