Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Jobs in the twenty first century require that workers be technologically savvy. I am a librarian at a Nevada elementary school that has almost 80% of the students on free or reduced lunch. Sixty nine percent of the students are English Language Learners and speak languages other than English at home.

My students do not have access to computers and digital cameras at home. They need to be taught to use this equipment early so they will be able to compete with more affluent students in middle school and high school. These inner city students need your help to give them the opportunity to learn all they can about technology and how it impacts learning.

My students need inexpensive digital cameras to check out of the library and use for assignments. The cameras will be motivation to learn how to incorporate photographs into PowerPoint and other software programs. This will open the door that leads to an increased amount of reading and writing as they create projects to showcase their learning.

Your donation will make it possible for low income students to have ready access to digital cameras so they can learn to use them. You will be allowing them to become competent users of technology which will lead them to higher grades and more job opportunities. This is truly an investment in the future of these students.
