" MORE "My 11th and 12th grade English students from rural North Carolina really enjoy all the different forms of media I try to provide for them.
Because of budget constraints in my county, it is difficult for me to get access to a DVD and VCR player on a weekly basis. The 70+ teachers at my school have to share 3 DVD players. Our VCRs are old and outdated, and will usually "eat" VHS tapes, if they play them at all. I try to show DVD or VHS clips at least once a week, but it often isn't possible. I also have a window air conditioner in my classroom that is very old and loud, making it difficult for my students to hear the simple speakers on my LCD projector. Living in the south, the only months we don't use the AC on a daily basis are November-February. To make life easier for me and my students, we'd love to have a combo DVD/VCR player and a set of speakers to enhance the literature we discuss daily. Having this technology committed to my classroom would allow my students to experience other forms of media than written media on a weekly and sometimes a daily basis. A large chunk of my state curriculum deals with exposing students to "non-print" texts. With your support, my students can fully appreciate all forms of literature and gain a better understanding of the world around them. My students need a DVD/VCR combination player and a set of speakers to connect to a computer and/or LCD projector. HIDELive Updates
