¡Leer es muy importante! I am a Spanish teacher who teaches Spanish 1 and 2 to 9th-12th graders. In addition, my school has a growing Spanish-speaking population.

Learning a foreign language can be intimidating to some students. I can make their learning atmosphere more comfortable by providing familiar topics, such a reading childrens stories, in the foreign language.

I need more stories in Spanish, especially in Big Books. These books can be seen by every student in the classroom thus eliminating the need to have lots of smaller books. These stories also help my native Spanish-speakers gain confidence with their speaking in a classroom setting. While they may be comfortable speaking to their Spanish-speaking friends in Spanish outside of class, they can become quiet and shy in a beginning level Spanish class. They are able to become peer teachers and help the other students read and understand these books while gaining confidence.

You will help will ensure that my students become more familiar and comfortable with learning a foreign language. You will also ensure that my native Spanish-speakers have a way to reach out and gain confidence in their own Spanish skills in an academic setting.
