Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a Pre-K through 5th grade school in a suburban setting. The students in my school come from low socio-economic status families and are highly transient.

Many of my students do not have access to books at home. Very few of them have ever been to a bookstore or even the public library. They have a desire to learn and read, but have not been given the opportunities or resources to succeed.

I would like to have multiple copies of the books nominated for our state book award. The books would circulate among the students. Then we would be able to meet monthly in book club settings. Students would be able to share their thoughts and feelings toward the books they have read.

Your help will empower my students with confidence as they read books that take them to new places and expose them to new ideas. They will learn from each other as they meet in small groups to discuss the books and the impact the stories had on their lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
