"I am the Instrumental Music Instructor at at a school for performing arts. Our college preparatory school infuses performing arts in all subject areas and is committed to instilling our core values of Integrity, Community, Artistry, Respect, and Excellence (ICARE) in our students. The Concert Band is now in its second year. Students, many of whom have never played an instrument before, have excelled and are excited about bringing their music to the next level this year.
Because our Band room is in the Basement, we are next door to the school cafeteria. Our building hosts FOUR different schools in the building. So, as we are holding class, there is, more often than not, a school having lunch in the cafeteria. The noise level from the cafeteria is often disruptive and interferes with the educational process.
Installing sound absorption on our walls will not only keep the distractions from the cafeteria out of the room, but enhance the sound coming from within our room as well. Also, keeping the sound in our room may very well result in the cafeteria's noise level decreasing as the students won't be competing with our sound level.
Your help will contribute to creating a quiet and more focused learning environment. It will help cultivate students' aural abilities in music as they will be able to focus their attention on the lesson at hand.
My students need a set of broadband sound-proofing panels.
The cost of this proposal is $623, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ."

Dear michael, Michael, William, Chris, Bridget, Carl Bishop, Nelson, Erik, Justin Colletti, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Anonymous Donors,
Thanks to your generous donations our Instrumental music program may continue to develop and flourish. Now more than ever, it is important to provide students with opportunities to explore the arts and develop their own voices of expression through the arts. During the present educational climate of standardized exams, all too often the arts are the first to be cut. It is fortunate that there are people such as yourselves that are sensitive to the needs of our students.
On behalf of the students at our school, we thank you!
With gratitude, Mr. S.
On Nov 16, 2009, Mr. S. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
"I gave to this project because I feel that music education is undersupported. I was fortunate enough to have attended 7 years of piano lessons and a music education class in high school. I wished my elementary and middle schools also offered music education."
"I helped because I'm a strong believer in education."

"We provided DonorsChoose.org with matching funds for projects that improve college readiness. We believe that when all people in the United States have the opportunity to develop their talents, our society thrives."
