A Comfy Place to Grow Readers

We work hard to teach them how to read, now we need you to help them learn to LOVE reading! I team teach a multi-age second and third grade class. Our students are mostly English language learners; half are bilingual learners in Spanish. Our school is the highest poverty school in our district.

We need to instill in our students a real passion for reading. They face the challenge of learning to read in a second language, or even in two languages. Many of them have no books at home. We've worked to build up our classroom library to ensure that our students have access to many high-quality, highly engaging books. Unfortunately, laying on the tile floor or sitting on hard plastic chairs is not very conducive to reading for long spans of time. School is where we need to make reading come alive!

Your generous donation for our project will give our students a comfortable place to read and talk about books with their classmates. As the kids have more engaging experiences with books, they'll want to take full advantage of every chance they get to read!

Fostering that "reading spark" will promote more proficient readers and life-long learners.
