Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a high-need community school in Texas. I have a classroom of 22 students from different cultures.

I recently read the story "No David" by David Shannon to my class. They enjoyed the story and wanted me to read aloud more stories of David. They are very excited about reading the story on their own.

I would like to do an author study with my class on David Shannon. Each student will participate in the author study. To ensure that this project is successful I would need at least three copies of 12 different book titles by David Shannon. Once the author study is complete students will then write their own story on No David.

Your help with this project will help my students feel successful in doing author studies and book studies. It will also give my students an opportunity to enjoy reading.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
