Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 10th grade Earth Science in New York. My school is located in a high needs community where most of the student population is African American.

My students had a hard time last year trying to find the epicenter of an earthquake using the traditional drawing compass with a pencil. It is impossible to draw a perfect circle if the pencil keeps on moving around.

The SAFE T compass will allow my students this year to accurately locate an epicenter. This topic is already hard enough for most of my students to grasp, but making the drawing of the circles easier will give them the confidence they need to continue trying. The Geothermal Energy/Earthquakes video is meant to further engage my students by showing them the science behind this natural disaster and the devastation it can cause.

In New York, students must find the epicenter of an earthquake on the lab practical portion of the Earth Science Regents exam. Your help will ensure that my students earn as many points as possible on their high stakes exam.
