"Research confirms that students retain more and are inherently motivated when their work involves something they enjoy. Furthermore, college and university classes almost always require students to be creative and work in groups on projects. The students at my 9-12 school enjoy coming to the Media Center in groups and working on the many assignments and projects they have. The student makeup of my school is rural and a high percentage of students are high-need requiring reduced and free lunches.

In years past the Media Center has purchased materials and supplies to assist students with their assignments and projects, but this year in Alabama we are in a financial downfall. My library media center funding has been taken completely away and therefore I can not purchase student project supplies.

In the past I have supplied colored construction and printer paper, tape, glue, poster board, markers, and other craft supplies. Providing these supplies has encouraged my students to go the extra distance to make their projects come to life. It has helped pave the way for their future at the college and university level. It has motivated many to pursue other artful hobbies. And lastly, it has earned them high grades for doing something they enjoy.

Your generosity will help supply my students with the materials they need to give that extra effort, to take their projects and assignments to a higher level. And finally, your help will prepare my students for the level or standard required at the higher education level. HIDE
