My students need 6 whisper phones to improve their phonemic awareness, reading, spelling, writing, and speech skills while also creating a more quiet and conducive learning environment!

FIRST GRADERS CANNOT READ WITH THEIR EYES! I am a first grade teacher from a VERY high needs community with a high population of special needs students.

My little ones are so excited to be learning to read, but at times it can be very overwhelming when they are all "quietly" reading to themselves. At six years old their quiet or whisper is what we (adults) consider a regular "indoor voice." Although at times it is rather humorous and cute to hear and watch them try to read quietly, it can also be very counter productive to their classmates whom may be working or in small groups.

A class set of WHISPER PHONES would make all the difference! Not only will the whisper phones cut down on the noise level in the room throughout the day, it will in turn help improve student concentration, reading skills, phonemic awareness, spelling, and articulation! Whisper phones look almost like what pilots wear while they fly. One ear is available to hear surrounding sounds, while the other ear is linked straight to the child's mouth! They barely need to whisper and can hear themselves perfectly! Having this simple tool available to them can help them read quietly to themselves. This will improve their reading comprehension, and at the same time stop them from distracting others. It also will help them improve their writing and spelling because they will be able to directly hear the sounds in the words they are stretching out without being distracted by outside noise. I also have a handful of special needs students in my classroom whom are very sensitive to high noise levels. It is very hard for them to concentrate and complete their work when the noise level increases. The whisper phones will allow for our classroom to remain quiet for them.

Reading and writing can be very challenging and overwhelming skills to learn. By donating towards this project you will be giving my kiddos a tool to help them be successful!
