"I teach Introduction to Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology. The students I teach are in a critical needs school and I teach a critical needs subject. Each student entering the school will either take me for Introduction to Biology or take Physical Science. Others of which who qualify may go directly to Biology I. Currently, I teach grades 9 through 12.

I assess my students in various ways. In each of those varying ways, the students see my handwriting. The students need to see their tests printed. My hand writing is not bad but it is not Times New Roman, 12 point font. The Subject Area Test will not be handwritten therefore my tests should not be handwritten. The printer would make printing their tests a reality and no longer a dream.

I need an all in one printer. An all in one printer will allow me to create their test and produce it with a word processing program. With an all in one printer I could cut and paste diagrams and give the students a more professional looking test.

Through your donation, the students will not be too shocked to effectively do well and pass their Subject Area Tests in Biology. The Anatomy and Physiology students will not gasp for air when they get to college to see all their tests produced were produced in a word processing program. With printed tests, each student will have the opportunity to be tested assessed like every other student in America at schools which are Level 5 and better.

My students need a classroom printer.

Mr. H. sent this note after the project was fully funded:

Oct 14, 2009
Dear Olivia, Lori and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
Thank you all for helping my classes to succeed by giving them a printed test. Before, I really did not think about the impact of seeing a printed test. It really makes a difference to actually have students excited about the future with printed tests. The printer in my classroom will make the day run even smoother.
I am anxious to see the look on their face when i am able to walk over to the printer to retrieve their warm, crisp test papers. Now my neatly inscribed tests are a thing of the past.

With gratitude,
Mr. H.
