"Can you imagine a classroom where everyday begins with an informative 2-3 minute clip that is directly tied to the chapter and section the students are studying in their books? Where teachers demonstrate online web quests? Where students can follow their teacher in learning how to use discussion boards, blogs, and how to correctly search and cite the Internet?
This is my vision for my classroom. I teach 8th grade Social Studies and Language Arts. I teach one special needs inclusion class and one low-performing class. My school has 2 LCD Projectors that over 100 teachers and support staff must share. Still, our school tries to be technology based, even though our students have limited access to or knowledge about technological advancements. Have you ever had resources available to you that you could not use? I do. We recently received new Social Studies books. With these came amazing multimedia clips: 2-3 minute videos that introduce each section, audio clips, and even a textbook website where students can take online quizzes and navigate webquests. But I can't use them! I don't have a way to share this information with all my students and with the amount of time and number of students I have, it is near impossible to show them on an individual basis. If I had an LCD projector and speakers, I could utilize these materials to engage students in the curriculum and to provide them with extra information. I could go further and create PowerPoint presentations or picture slideshows about the topic we are covering. Based on my experience, I know that children learn best when they can see what they are learning about! This will help them visualize and understand their history lessons. Help me bring inSIGHT to my students! Show them what it was actually like being part of the slave trade. Help them imagine what Native American dancing looks like. Assist them in visualizing what trials an indentured servant faced in colonial America. Give me the power to better teach my students and give my students a better way of learning the material. My students need a multimedia projector and USB computer speakers. HIDEMrs. O.'s Classroom:
