"An innovative school in need of innovative resources.

Our students' school is an innovative High School in a high need community, which bases its educational philosophy on the interests and passions of its learners. The main creed of the school is “One student at a time.” Meaning, the school believes each student's learning experience must be as individualized as possible. This is achieved with academic related internships and project based learning. Like any custom, individualized product this system is time consuming and dear. With the help of educators, families, the community, and of course the students, this method has been extremely successful in keeping countless kids from falling through the cracks.

My students need a digital projector. The main use of this device will be for assessment purposes. Their school relies almost entirely on a process called an “exhibition” for their evaluations. This process requires the learner to present an entire quarters worth of work in front of peers, educators, family and members of the community. The process is amazing because it makes the students accountable for their own work and requires them to explain what knowledge they have gained throughout the quarter. Currently, our school only has one digital projector. If students choose to use a projector for their exhibition they must wait days, even weeks, to procure this tool. When dealing with a generation of “digital natives,” it is important to allow them access to resources which will facilitate their learning most effectively. A digital projector in their classroom will allow them to have access to a tool which will improve their quarterly assessments.

The dream of my students is to have a completely “digital and modern classroom” (their words not mine). We have already taken the first steps towards that goal. We currently have several computers within our classroom in which the students have access. Unfortunately, this is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. The students also need tools in which to present their work and hopefully to use as a learning resource. These tools include a digital projector and an interactive Smart Board. This project is the first step in creating the “digital and modern classroom” the students envision. I hope to continue this dream by creating a project which gives the students access to a Smart Tech Smart Board and the interactive learning programs that accompany the product.

With your help, these students will be able to learn in an educational environment which matches the needs of “digital natives.” Help us get rid of the outmoded and outdated resources currently used in education and help us catch up with our learners needs.

My students need a digital projector. The cost of this proposal is $280, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Craig & Carol, Erica, Selena and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,

Education is not simply a collection of teachers and students learning from one another. It is a entire community working together to insure the future of countless youths. It is my great hope to use the material you have provided me to create a digital classroom much more in touch with our student's learning style. Fortunately, we have a good base to start with at our school. Yet we need much more. With your help and support, WE WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.

Thank you for all you have done.

With gratitude,
Mr. B.
