Tantalizing Tablets

My students need 4 computer tablets so that our special needs and computer illiterate students can learn 21st century skills.

I teach 630 very diverse children. Not only are we a Title One school with great economic diversity, but we are also a school with much social and cultural diversity. We have a large Hispanic community, but Spanish is only one of many other languages spoken here. Our special needs children are part of a school wide inclusion program. As the art teacher I reach everyone.

The largest problem we face this year, is losing our technology teacher to funding cuts. As a result a few teachers are trying to breach the gap by offering more technology in our classrooms and by offering afterschool technology clubs. Unfortunately, so many of our children are unfamiliar with things as basic as keyboards and mice. They do not have the advantages of our more affluent children, and fall behind.

The art room is the perfect place to correct these problems, by introducing students to the Internet, computer drawing, and photo editing programs. Additionally, the Wacom Computer Tablets, are much easier for our special needs, and ESL students to use because they are so similar to drawing on paper.

By helping us purchase these computer tablets you are insuring that a group of children that is often left behind, will be able not only to catch up, but to also acquire the 21st century skills that are necessary to make them capable and strong.
