This means that our special needs population is included in the general education classroom for social and academic purposes for as much time as possible each day.
We have a lovely outdoor area (courtyard) that we would like to be able to use more constructively. We would like to teach some science and art lessons outdoors. However, our courtyard is empty and is looking very sad right now. Our young students will be safe and secure in this enclosed (future) Kinder Garden classroom. If generous donors come forward to contribute individual features that we need to create our Kinder Garden, our dream will slowly take shape. Having a shelter from the sun is our first step. Eventually, we would like to have planting boxes and a water play station. The Virginia Standards we will meet by using our Kinder Garden are: K.5 The student will investigate and understand that water flows downhill and has properties that can be observed and tested. One example would be that some materials float in water, while others sink. Another lesson will involve planting plants. The standard addressed is K.6 The student will investigate and understand basic needs and life processes of plants(ex. living things change as they grow, and they need food, water, and air to survive; plants live and die (go through a life cycle); and the offspring of plants are similar but not identical to their parents and to one another. Planters will help us to meet this standard. Our first activity will be to plant apple and pumpkin seeds in the fall. We experiment with objects that Sink and Float in the spring. Water tables will help us to meet this standard. You can make a difference in the education of our youngest students. Let us take our students outdoors so that they can learn in nature's classroom...in our own Kinder Garden. My students need 2 Festival Pop-Up Shelters to go over the picnic table area to provide shade. HIDEMrs. L.'s Classroom:
