My students need 2 Soil Test Kits, 2 pH Soil Testers, 3 Soil Sampling Tubes, a Water Test Kit and 4 Collecting Nets.

Learning beyond the classroom is an experience that can influence future environmental scientist. I teach science to 7th and 8th grade honor students. Although honor student, 85% of my students are challenged from living in high needs inner city communities.

This year we have the opportunity to conduct two field studies at local parks. However, we are challenged with the lack of equipment and supplies to conduct authentic investigations.

To conduct our investigations we need equipment to gather specimens and reactants to test water and soil for a variety of factors. Prior to our in field study, student will view a tape of the park where they will be conducting their investigations. Students will form a question and hypothesis, develop a procedure, and research the topic of their investigation. At the trip, students are to collect data and make observations after which they will analyze their data. The opportunity to conduct an investigation of this magnitude beyond the classroom is very exciting for my students.

With your help, my students will be able to experience their field study at levels that otherwise they would not be able to experience. Using the proper equipment is extremely important to their learning and you can make the difference in the level at which they can experience the field studies.
