You Can't Live Life in a Vacuum, Can You?

My students need bell vacuum sets and extra tubing and pumps to help them understand how air can occupy space, have weight, and change things by its absence or presence.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Are you looking for a group of inner city, culturally diverse kids who want the best education possible? Look no further for we are that school looking for someone who would love to help us achieve that goal! I am the science teacher for these students and can personally vouch that they love learning about science and discovering the world that exists outside their city block. It is exciting to watch them explore this wonderful world and know that I can help them discover more each time they come to my classroom. I feel like Ms Frizzle without her Magic School Bus and love having this opportunity.

We have been learning about air, its characteristics and the benefits of having it around. I want to share some of the properties of air in a manner that students can easily see what it can do. By using bell jars, we can create a vacuum area using marshmallows that will easily demonstrate some of the harder concepts of air to learn about. Unless you see it, these concepts do not make sense. Bell jar kits are so valuable for learning things pertaining to aerodynamics! I have students who really want to learn things that will help them to become astronauts or aerospace engineers, a rare commodity in our country!

If we can obtain sets of bell jars and vacuum kits for each group of children, we can perform a number of experiments that will allow them to visualize some of the more abstract properties of air. Keeping them excited to learn is very important and will help them develop a foundation for learning the more abstract concepts. I feel their inquisitive natures will certainly be stimulated with the use of these materials.

Could you help us reach this goal? You would not be sorry and you would know within yourself that you have helped make a difference in the lives of students who will become responsible, hard-working citizens in tomorrow’s world. Thank you for considering us!
