I teach one section of earth science honors and 4 sections of Global Science Investigations, which is a new course on current topics in environmental science. The kids are very excited about this course, as it's sort of a "what's happening in my world" adventure. It's a chance to get them hooked on science.
I have 100 students in my Global Science Investigations (GSI) class and no textbooks. I am writing a great deal of my own material and taking the rest from the internet. However we have only limited access to the internet. Our school has 2000 students and only one computer lab with 25 computers.
My students are very excited about this course, as it relates to the world that the live in on a daily basis.
I have managed to piece together 3 computers for my classroom. If I could get 4 netbooks, my kids could work comfortably in groups of 3 on gathering material for our discussions and reading material that I have placed on my web site.
You can help make a very difficult situation better. I can get material in their hands that will help them understand the world that they will be living in and the choices they will have to make. The students in this class are 12th graders, and a large number will be heading for college next year. I want to send them there excited about science.
