My students need materials (3 different learning kits) that will teach them what energy is, how we are transferring/creating or utilizing different energies and how we can use and conserve the energies that we already have.
I teach at a title 1 school where most students receive free lunch due to their socioeconomic struggles. Some students don't eat over the weekend. Basic education materials are the predominant purchases at our school and also family support. Additionally, we have several military families where one parent or both are deployed overseas. My fourth grade students are excited to learn all they can about our world and we discuss ecological problems in our daily morning meetings. With the economy at present and most people struggling to make ends meet, I think that energy conservation is something all could use to save money, but most importantly, it is something we need to get into the habit of practicing, because we will run out of fossil fuels.
When we discuss how the economy stands and how people are struggling to make ends meet, with the combination of how gas prices are rising, we discuss what we can do to not only save money, but also save the environment with better energies, and ultimately our planet. Since these materials are not available due to our school districts financial restrictions and the economic cuts for school funding I would really need your help to teach the energy concepts and conservation.
By teaching students not only what energies we are currently harnessing for the functioning of our society, we also learn about how to preserve, transform, search for alternative energies, and conserve the energies we have at present. I need three kits that teach this to my kids. We would use rotations to where all students can learn from books and hands on experiments what we have, how we use it, how we can preserve and conserve it, and most importantly how we can find alternatives. Additionally I am asking for a game, with which students after learning the material can play and review the same concepts to ingrain the information into their long term memory. We learn best when we are having fun.
You would not only help me teach this alternative energy unit to my students, you would also empower my students to help their parents save money by conserving all energies they use at home, and teach them how to preserve this wonderful planet. Additionally, we would spark in the minds of children the possibilities that are out there... after all they are the energy providers of the future. You are helping me now, to help all of us in the future have sustainable energy. You would make all this possible one classroom at a time.
