I am teaching a class in Astronomy for the first time, and incorporate astronomical observations in my lower-level science classes.

I have yet to find a student who has not been in awe when looking at the craters of the moon or the rings of Saturn for the first time.

I would like to expose my students to the wonders of the universe, and allow them to feel the wonder and awe that may inspire them to literally and figuratively reach for the stars. By providing them with telescopes, I hope to keep their natural curiosity and nurture their creative and critical thinking skills. Using the laser pointer will allow me to guide them through their exploration, and allow students to facilitate and run their own community observing sessions for their peers and their parents and guardians.

This equipment would help make it possible to show my students just how vast our universe is, and just how small and fragile our planet really is.
