I am a teacher at an inner city school. This is a high need community and the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunches.
Due to recent budget cuts we no longer have money in the budget to buy subject related literature books. My students love to read but we do not have many math literature books that reinforce what they are learning in class.
These books would be a great way to get the children interested in learning about a new math concept or to review something previously learned, and will get them thinking about different ways it can be used. My students love to read and by having these books right in the room they will be accessible all the time. Students will see real life applications of the math concepts they are learning through the characters in the books. When students see how math is used they will have a better understanding of why they need to learn it.
