"I am a 7th and 8th grade history teacher at a small K-12 school in Mississippi. The student population is made up of hardworking farming families and migrant workers. With the recent budget cuts in Mississippi education, the district has limited funding; therefore, my teacher supply is limited. I am asking DonorsChoose to help me get essential resources that I feel are important in any classroom, a television and DVD/VCR player.
As a history teacher, I try to expose my students to various types of resources, such as videos, the Internet, news media, and outside learning experiences. However, my classroom is without a television and VCR. Because of this deficiency, my students miss out on learning opportunities that could be shown through video. As a part of a rural community, a majority of my students have never traveled outside the state of Mississippi. Through visuals, such as video, I would be able to shed light onto this great country and add to the learning process in a visual way. Your generous donation will allow my students to explore history through visual reenactments, documentaries, and history-based movies. It will also allow my students to see that strangers all across the country care enough about their future to invest in it. Please help in making this project a reality. HIDE My students need one television and one VCR/DVD combo.
