Many of our students come from unstable situations at home and do not get exposed to many quality arts experiences outside of school.
My goal over the last few years that I have been teaching at this school has been to help my students learn how to constructively analyze themselves in order to learn how to improve. As an attempt to help them learn how to gain these skills, we will watch a video of a chorus concert from the past, and have them analyze their performance and tell us how they could have improved. Also, when it gets closer to the concert, we will video tape them in a dress rehearsal, and have them constructively criticize themselves in order to help them understand how important their stage presence is as well as the quality of their singing. The problem is that the only method of recording our students is with a VHS Video Camera. This means that not only are all of the videos from the past concerts on VHS, but all of our new concerts are also put on VHS. VHS tapes are outdated and very hard to store (we have over 100 VHS tapes in boxes taking up most of our storage). Also, there are very few VCRs left at our school, making it difficult to play our concerts for our students the next class. We would like to acquire a DVD/VCR Recorder Combo that will help us to transfer all of our VHS tape to DVDs. This would not only free up a lot of our storage space, but make it easy for us to show concerts to our students. Also, if we ever wanted to make a copy for a student, they would then have it in a media form that they would be able to use at home, and it is easier (and cheaper) to copy for them as a DVD. Your help would provide our students with up-to-date equipment that will provide them with a great experience where they can learn self improvement and become independent learners. Please help our students by contributing to supply them with this new equipment. It is my belief that by providing the opportunity for students to be able to learn how to self-evaluate, they will improve and learn how to become self-sufficient learners.
