"My classroom sits in an economically challenged section of our community. We are a public school who is going through major budget cuts in our current economic state.

My students have to have more real life situations to read about. It is already very difficult to get teens to read, however I find it increasingly challenging to get them to read nonfiction, as most of them have very little interest in any of the nonfiction books we have at school.

Sixty nonfiction books that will grab their interest and give my students a wide variety of topics to choose from. My classroom is full of 8th graders who want to read but don't have great books! I truly believe that if we give students good things to read it will foster a love of reading in the future. Our books are old, worn out and do not interest the population I teach. They need real life stories about real life people that they can relate to.

These books will make learning more meaningful, enrich my students personal lives, as well as increase their reading skills, fluency, and comprehension. Nonfiction reading is also very pivotal to the development of their life skills, as many of our students come from homes where college is not a primary option.

My students need high interest non-fiction books to read to help increase their love of reading, fluency, and comprehension.

Dear Palisades Media Group, Leonard, Catherine, Marcus, Credit Suisse Holiday Charity Initiative and Anonymous Donor,

I wanted to take a second to personally thank you for your selfless donations to my students, our school, as well as our community. The dedication you have shown to the improvement of the resources available to my students cannot truly be expressed with words. These books will go a long way to increasing student interest, as well as their ability in reading. Many people today argue for a better educational system but few actually act on their beliefs; if we had more people willing to give the way you all have given I am sure, without a doubt, that this country would be a much better place. Thanks again for your donation, the impact will follow my students for the rest of their lives.

With gratitude,
Mr. C.
