"In a large rural high school with a high percentage of low income students the budget for technology is limited and the budget for computer furniture is non-existent. A large percentage of our students rely solely on technology provided by the school for their computer needs. Teaching computer research skills is difficult, at best, when students are not able to have immediate hands-on practice on the computers. Crowded conditions are not conducive to effective teaching and learning.

In my computer research classes I have only 12 computer workstations when class size on average is 35 students. My students desperately need additional access to the latest technology. In an ever growing technology age, technology is the key to success in both college and the workplace.

My first step in rectifying the current situation is the acquisition of two computer workstations. This first step will help in eliminating the need for students sitting double and triple at one of the classes twelve computers. My second step will be the acquisition of two additional desktop computers for student use.

Your generosity as a donor will help to ensure that my students have the best foundation I can provide. Your donation will enable me, as a public school teacher, to begin to build a better computer research laboratory for all students at my high school.

My students need two computer workstations on which to place two desktop computers.

Dear SONIC Drive-In and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
Words simply cannot express my sincere appreciation for your generosity. My students are in great need of exposure to technology as a high percentage do not have access to technology in their homes. In these difficult economic times it is even more important to provide my students with all they need to succeed. I, along with my colleague, am working to upgrade the technology at my school and the computer desk you furnished is a step toward the goal. This is the first step of meeting and surpassing state standards of one computer per 100 students.
It is my strong desire to see that every student with whom I come in contact is prepared for the technology he or she will encounter during the college and career experience.
I am looking forward to the day when I can proudly say that my students are no longer "Technologically Challenged."

With gratitude,
Ms. L.

Dear SONIC Drive-In and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
I simply cannot express how much your generosity will help the students at my school to learn and grow. As a teacher in a high poverty school I see numerous students that are "Technologically Challenged." Our school is the only avenue through which many can utilize current technology and the ever changing cyber world. Your donation to our project provides much needed supplies that will enable my students to better meet the challenges faced, not only during their high school experience, but will follow them on to their college and work careers. Your donation not only helps the students I teach today, but will continue to enrich the education of future students for years to come.

With gratitude,
Ms. L.
